Chris Corrigan on the Place of Power:
If you are a facilitator or an OD consultant, the next time you begin a project with a client, ask them to take you to the place of power in the organization or community and see if you can't discern what makes it so. It might be a physical place, or it might be a time or a collection of values, or a highly regarded project or initiative from which people take strength. I'm willing to bet that what you learn there will form the basis for whatever it is your about to do.
That would be my corner office, Chris. See if you can disern, Sweetiepie, what makes this place so special. Could it be the desk? The animal heads mounted on the wall? The leopard skin carpet? The attendants waving ostrich plume fans? The fundraisers and lobbyists and think tank thinkers and newscasters lining the hallway for a minute of my precious time? Run along now and check out the Dumpster. Then ask yourself where real power lies. O, Chris, Sweetie? Power to the People! (He is so cute. I hate to have to break his spirit, but this social organizing has gone quite far enough.)
