Lohmann compares neocons in power to thugs among geniuses. Might makes it right enough, when intelligence cowers and placates. What we have seen is not a failure of theory, but a failure of courage. We have proven, whatever happens to Bush, that a determined power group, contemptuous of the "parchment regime" of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, can do what it pleases from the White House, with no kick coming from the press, the public or Congress. Whether we will lose democracy this time around or not, we no longer deserve it. We have proven ourselves unwilling to defend it. The Patriots will wave flags long after democracy is gone. The tyrant will insist and they will comply delirious to meld with the Militant Nation. How does one resist tyranny and survive? Study and imitate those who have. Diogenes comes to mind. He fared better than Socrates, Christ and the martyrs. Celebrate what you cannot resist! No worse indictment of any Tyrant than the quality of his sycophants. Be first in line to mouth the the ever-revised talking points. Prostrate reason. Spin even wilder lies. Set an example for others in moral cowardice, while splicing into your discourse direct quotation from cowardly placators. Let their discourse converge in the face of a moral monster, as glib and sleek as they are themselves. Let them adopt as boon companion the canting knave. Thousands of other strategies, but mock epic, Carnival, the Praise of Folly, and pseudodoxia (false learning) are my personal favorites. How can they shoot us for spouting their absurdities with a moronic face of praise? "The Little Dictator" was filmed in America. What would Chaplain have done in Weimar? What did Good Soldier Schweik do, under the Austrian Emperor? Salute! Salute twice! Salute on tippytoe!
